We’ve just tipped over the winter equinox, the longest night and shortest day of the year. It certainly feels like a cold dark winter this season. A far cry from this week’s photo set. A hot afternoon in Northern California. I along with pretty much everyone is looking forward to next summer and the potential promise of warm, pandemic free days. I crave care free creation and the ability to move about the world un afraid. That may be a long time coming but I’m feeling optimistic

Veronica and I spent an afternoon shooting together on one of my neighbor’s sun drenched lofts. This huge set as well as a handful of tintypes. NiaAgain

A late-week update with a second set of images of Nia. Apologies for the later than usual post. I usually try to get these things out by Wednesday. I just got back from a shoot for the day gig, down in LA. Lets go to LA they said. It never rains in LA, sure we can shoot for Spring in December. Well, over an inch of rain and sub 40 degree temps say differently. But it all came together. We’re good under pressure. Even when we’re pushed to our limits. Sometimes that’s when you’re the most creative. When you’re forced to be. Bending and stretching is good for the body and soul.

Lia and I know each other through some tangental community connections. She’s one of those people who seem to have endless amounts of energy. Artist, motorcycle rider, model, solid career, relationship wizard, constantly traveling. I have no idea how she does it all. I think if we could harness her energy we could solve climate change. After spending some time shooting tintypes, we headed down to the daylight space and shot a ton of digital images. @lia.source Rumor has it, she has an OnlyFans out there somewhere. . .

Kisa In Abandon

This is the first official post since soft launching this site. Exciting? Anticlimactic? Yeah, sure, both things can be true.
This one is from a ways back. I’ve shoot with Kisa a number of times This may have been the first time. Can't recall. . . I think she’s probably one of the most physically beautiful women I’ve ever worked with. But then again, you know. Freckles and red hair and a body to die for. What else do you want? Some dear friends recently moved out of my building and left this empty space behind. Fantastic light and character. I could shoot here over and over. Something about empty spaces ;-)

The Sweetest Devil

I have no idea what I’m doing with myself these days. Is it just pandemic fatigue? Am I just getting older? Has the culture shifted so much that I have no idea where I fit or if I even want to try? Has photography become so disposable and ubiquitous thats its lost any meaning? Enjoy these images of Bambii shot in my studio a number of years ago while I fantasize about running off to a cabin in the woods and becoming as subsistence dirt farmer. . .

DatDeerDoe!

Nia used to live around these parts once upon a time. Budding, talented tattoo artist, alt model. Incredibly sweet, fun and funny. Great fun to shoot with! This is one of two sets we shot that day, along with some tintypes and some Polaroids. She just happened to grab some namesake antlers from a pile I had laying around. Turned out quite iconic! This recent weather reminds me of the day Nina and I met and shot together for the first time. Gray, chilly. Atmospheric river, bomb cyclone. . . Definite weather weather. Pretty much all I want to do is curl up with a hot cup of tea and read a book. I love her look. Always had a thing for red hair and freckles. I really should shoot some tintypes of her. An Evening With Bunny

Its been about two years, in the before times, since I got to hang out with my dear friend, collaborator, muse, Bunny. Felt great to catch up, shoot some tintypes, eat some pizza, have a few cocktails. Things are definitely heading the right direction pandemic wise, but it doesn’t quite feel normal yet. I still feel constricted and cooped up. Held back. . . These nights of normalcy make for wonderful memories though. Oh, and I discovered I could use my little Canon point and shoot with the built in flash to trip my studio strobes. Thats how the color images below were made. Might have to play with that some more. I quite like the results.

Leola, Pleasure Preistess

Leola was a model that was making frequent trips up to the Bay Area. Building a life and profession around her Tantra practice. For one reason or another, the Bay Area is an epicenter for personal growth, development, exploration. There is a current of sensuality and sexuality just under the surface. Plant medicine has been decriminalized in Oakland. Burning Man is based here. If you dream it, you can be it. The only constraints are your own imagination and inhibitions. She’s incredibly comfortable in her skin and in front of the camera. Really fun and easy to shoot with. I look forward to the next time we can make some images together. Lana Shay

Lana is another model I shot for Me In My Place, once upon a time. I can’t recall how I got connected with her. Probably stumbled across her Instagram. She and I have a few friends in common up in NorCal. Its been awesome to watch her life and business blossom. She’s a coach and teacher, writer, proud sex worker and lover of life. We spent a warm, late spring afternoon in her bedroom with all the windows open. Taking photos and chatting about psychedelics. . . Heather Monique

Heather Monique, and the set that started. . . Something. . .

This is the first set of images that Heather and I shot together. In a 1950’s ranch house on the San Francisco Peninsula. I had convinced her to shoot with me for Me In My Place. A pay site/blog of “real women, in their homes” I’d say we killed it. Heather, aside from being a gorgeous model and woman, is an incredible business person and marketer. She’s grown to nearly a half a million followers (Insta) and is now doing incredibly well on OnlyFans The above image has received tens of thousands of likes and has been posted to countless fan accounts. It kinda launched it all. I’m super proud to call Heather a friend and look forward to many more shoots together. Click thru to see a bunch more shots from this first day.

Valkyrie In Chains

Val is a local artist and sometimes model here in the Bay Area. I’d been following her work for some time. We finally got it together to collaborate on some tintypes one weekend during the Covid lockdown. I think she’s the first person I took the chance of working with during social distancing. I feel its fairly safe to live limited one on one interactions if everyone is following CDC guidelines as they move about the their lives. Olivia Preston

Olivia is a traveling model from Canada and one time Playboy Cyber Girl of the Year, 2018. I caught her on a West Coast trip and we spent the day shooting tintypes and a bunch of digital imagery. A neighbor friend of mine, with impeccable style let us shoot in her space. Gorgeous and sun filled. Lots of backlight. My favorite.

Meet Floofie

In times past, I’d venture up to the Pacific Northwest for a couple weeks for the 4th of July. Really prime time up there. Gorgeous weather. Super stereotypical American summer. Fireworks, long days, heat waves, everything in bloom. Really is one of my favorite parts of the country. While up one year, I reached out to Floofie. We were both making content for Zivity at the time. She was a prolific art model working out of Portland. We met in a small town in Washington and spent the day shooting on the river. Kam. September, 1975

I’ve known Kitty for a long time. This was I think our second or third shoot together. All on Polaroid Spectra film. No longer available. Perfectly picks up that gritty 70’s vibe. The Polaroid may not have been invented as a way to take dirty pictures, but that ability certainly led in part to its dominance in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. The ability to document your lovers without running a roll of film down to Suzy at the local FotoMat to develop. Hop on Kitty’s Instagram here if you’re so inclined. Nevaeh

Rosie was a traveling model from Southern California that came through for a half day of shooting. This I think was one of three that day. Click through for more. . . It was an unusually dark and rainy day for Northern California. This set is lit by a huge sliding glass door just camera right. The gray sky and big window made for a beautiful soft light.

Lauren WK, Set 1

I photographed Lauren WK for Zivity back in 2011 at LeftSpace Studios in San Francisco. I had become assistant to and friends with the proprietor, RJ Muna, and had convinced him to let me shoot after hours. It was just Lauren and I in this enormous rental studio, with all the lighting and equipment I could ever want. I felt like a boss! Click through to view the complete set of 40 images. Damn I miss the heyday of Tumblr and the era of the “alt model” She’s still modeling, still looks amazing, she’s aged much better than I have. Check out her Insta here.
